Back in the day DJs were the kings of the airways. Stations sent them out to Supermarket openings, auto sales promotions and local concerts, etc. because they attracted big crowds.

Also, the DJs often determined what was played on their shows, which is why the labels courted the jocks with promos, favors and often payola.

Some of the bigger market jocks became huge celebrities and even put out their "favorite" songs on compilation LPs. Favorite probably meant the tunes that they were getting greased to play. Nonetheless, these DJs were charismatic, had great radio voices and had hundreds of thousands of listeners. Here are some of their albums, one per jock.
